What’s fascinating about water jet cutting? This versatile technology can cut through almost any material, from soft foam to solid steel.
Knoll Feinmechanik, as a service provider and contract manufacturer, cuts parts for a wide range of industries, including medical and electrical engineering, as well as for stonemasons, winemakers, kitchen manufacturers, and artists.
The company also specializes in producing small quantities of test components for research and custom-made parts. Items such as seals, Teflon foils, case inserts, and intricate contours crafted from materials like glass, titanium, aluminium, or steel are just a few examples of the diverse products regularly manufactured at the Umkirch facility.

Precise cutting with no material alteration
Water jet cutting is an ideal and highly efficient manufacturing process for creating 2D contours, no matter how intricate or complex. Using either abrasive or pure water jet cutting, parts can be shaped quickly and precisely without generating heat or altering the material’s structure.
At Knoll Feinmechanik, the range of parts and materials processed is incredibly diverse, reflecting the company’s extensive expertise that ensures efficient and seamless order handling. For layered or brittle materials, preliminary samples can be created to assess feasibility and quality. Test cuts are also highly beneficial for all other projects, with a simple 10 x 10 cm material sample being sufficient for evaluation.
In close collaboration with our clients, agreements are made regarding the procurement of materials: It can be sourced directly or provided by the client. The latter may be necessary, for example, if the parts are to be used in a certified process.
Modern equipment
Knoll Feinmechanik operates two state-of-the-art CNC water jet cutting machines for part production. One machine uses abrasive cutting with sand for harder materials, while the other utilizes pure water for softer materials. Both machines feature working areas of 1,000 x 2,000 mm and are perfectly suited for creating samples, prototypes, and small to medium production runs, handling quantities up to five digits.
